About me

Someone once told me I’m not an artist…I suppose they meant that I wasn’t a professional artist, selling my work, but I have always considered myself an artist. I’ve been creating art for as long as I can remember and continue to experiment with different mediums like drawing, painting, stained glass, jewelry…my studio is filled with the various tools of all these crafts, most forgotten in favor of painting.

I have struggled with finding my style, as all artists do, but I feel like I started to find it in the chaos of experimentation. I don’t plan most of my paintings; instead, I make a mess and see where it leads. I love creating colorful abstracts with interesting details, made by mixing ink and paint. From there, I add more details and sometimes a drawing if it feels right. I know the rules of composition and color, but I don’t bother to follow them…I’ve never been much of a rule follower, but I guess that’s part of what makes me an artist.

One of my first pieces of art - under 5 years old, I think.
